Curriculum

Class starts on a Friday evening at 6pm with me demonstrating how to handle the horse so that you can safely and easily work with their feet. This horsemanship portion of the class is unique to my horseshoeing school and is the difference in having an easy time of shoeing or a hard one. The horses have to cooperate with you or you can’t learn and most horses have to be taught how to cooperate with you.

ozark-shoeing-goodNext I will shoe a horse and show you how to hold the legs and how to prepare the foot and how to use the mapping system. I will show you how to use the tools properly and how to shape the shoes to match the balanced trim. Then I will show you how to nail the shoe to the foot properly and how to finish the foot like a professional.

Saturday starting at 9am we will take a field trip to the Spanish Lake blacksmith shop. This will be your opportunity to purchase your farrier tools with me by your side to help you get the right tools for you. We have a lot of fun at the shop and it is a great place to get to know each other a little better!

Saturday after lunch it is your turn. You will shoe the front feet on your horse. This is where it really gets good you likely will experience a lot of doubt and emotion at this point. Remember; I will be right there with you to help you to do what needs to be done. This is what sets my farrier trade school apart from the rest! You will take all afternoon to shoe the front feet.

Sunday starting at 9am you will shoe the hind feet and we usually are finished by noon or shortly there after so you have time to drive home. One horse is all you will want to work on because of time and physical exhaustion. You will discover muscles you didn’t even know you had but it’s ok it will get easier and you will become a horse shoer. Is it easy? No and that’s what makes it worthwhile!

You will feel a since of accomplishment when you are done and you will be pleased with the work you have just done and when you have a day of rest you will be anxious to shoe another horse. You will know exactly what needs to be done after graduating from this kind of trade school and yes I am just a phone call away to answer any questions or what ever you might need relative to this trade school! <p>You will be glad you took this class!

Certificates are handed out at the end of the class!horseshoeing_certificate
